Pelosi Embraces Hypocrisy, Weiner Can Stay

I haz pantz now

I told you the other day that all eyes were on Nancy Pelosi, and her potential handling of Weinergate.  She has failed miserably.

AP:

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says the decision should be up to the congressman and his New York constituents.

The former speaker said in San Francisco that she believes the decision should be made by “the individual member” and the people in his district.

In other words, Pelosi is declining to call for Weiner’s resignation.  This is in stark contrast to her actions when Republican Rep. Mark Foley was caught sexting congressional pages.  The Foley and Weiner incident are very similar, and it should be clear that neither man broke any laws.

Pelosi’s insistence that Foley be tossed out of the House, and saying that Republican leadership was wrong to ignore the behavior of one of their members, is patently hypocritical to her statement on Weiner.  If it was wrong for the GOP to ignore Foley’s behavior because representatives should be held to a higher standard (her words, not mine) then it’s wrong for her to ignore Weiner’s behavior.

I’ll just squash this now … the page Foley was communicating with was a minor, but was of legal age to consent (16 in D.C.).  Not defending it, just stating a fact.

Also, comparisons to Ensign are as pea-brained as it gets.  Ensign never sent inappropriate images/texts to anyone, and he didn’t lie about a sex scandal.  He and his wife had already worked through the affair months before the public new about it, and they were separated at the time.  There’s also a chance he only went public because of a threat by someone else to do so.  They are so dissimilar you are comparing apples to pizza.

Say what you want but Weiner’s behavior was unethical as Foley’s was unethical. Unfortunately, Democrats are not as motivated to remove Weiner as Republicans were with Foley.

UPDATE:

Now Pelosi is calling for Weiner to step down.  Political pressure has become too much for her to maintain hypocrisy.
